Estimated Arrival Time Home on Saturday Evening

Hello Everyone,

Just a quick update....we are still unsure as to what time we will be arriving home on Saturday evening and I won't know for sure until I see the heat sheets tomorrow morning. I am guessing it will be between 7:00-9:00 PM. Once we know, we will have someone update the blog with the arrival time so you will know when to pick up your swimmer. Please check back tomorrow afternoon for a pick up time.

Thanks! See you bright and early tomorrow!

CONGRATULATIONS - J Hammer

As many of you know, Swim Canada conducted their annual meeting here on PEI last week. As part of this event, Swim Canada hosted their awards banquet Saturday night.

It is my sincere pleasure to inform you that J Hammer was awarded a Swim Canada award for his dedication and commitment to swimming. As Dolphins, we know first hand how lucky we are to have J involved with swimming. J has served in many roles such as president of our club for many years, website design and support, meet official, meet manager, and coach (I know I am forgetting lots!). We are blessed to have a team member who isn’t afraid to ‘dream out loud’ and make dreams come true. He is our swimmers number one fan and the success our club has experienced the past few years is largely in part to his leadership.

Congratulations J from the SDSC!

Swimming Cancelled

Hi Dolphins:
Please note that swimming will be cancelled:

October 31st - Halloween

November 1st - Swim meet in Moncton (most swimmers and coaches will be attending)

Thanks,
Tanya

Announcement You All Have Been Waiting For....

I am so THRILLED to be making this announcement...

On Friday, October 24, 2008, the Summerside Dolphin Swim Club is going to be having two very special guest speakers. Three-time Paralympian Chelsey Gotell and her coach, Andrew Cole are coming to Summerside to give a presentation to all of our swimmers and families and then they are going to stay and coach a practice with the Tier 4/Regional Group!

So parents....PLEASE mark your calendars, October 24, 2008 for the following times:

3:30-4:00: Presentation by Chelsey Gotell and Andrew Cole. Chelsey will have her medals from the Paralympics with her. She will be signing autographs so have your swimmer bring an extra cap/t-shirt/something for Chelsey to sign. All Dolphin Families are welcome to attend this....we want as many people there as possible.! Bring the whole family!

4:00-5:30: Practice for the Tier 4/Regional Group (Practice will be coached by Chelsey and Andrew). Parents and swimmers (from all tiers) are welcome to stay for this practice to watch.

I am including a brief bio on Chelsey (see below). She is one of Canada's most decorated swimmers and I am honored to have our Club host Chelsey and her coach for the afternoon. This is a once and a lifetime opportunity for our swimmers so please try to make arrangements for your swimmer to be there.

See you all on Friday!

Coach Tracy :o)

Bio: Chelsey Gotell
Chelsey began swimming competitively when she was eight years old, joining the Antigonish Aquanauts Swim Club because a friend was a member. She began competing nationally as a Swimmer with a Disability (SWAD) three years later and by age 14, had graduated to the international ranks by qualifying for the Paralympics. Chelsey is a visually impaired athlete.

Chelsey has represented Canada at the past three Paralympic Games. This past summer she competed at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing. Chelsey captured 5 Paralympic medals, two gold in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke, silver in the 100m freestyle and bronze in the 400m Freestyle and 100m butterfly. At the Paralympic Games in Athens (2004), Chelsey won a gold medal in the 100 backstroke and 3 bronze medals in the 50 and 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Chelsey is currently the world record holder in the 200 IM and the 100m & 200m Backstroke.

Chelsey is in her third year McMaster University studying psychology and she would like to one day become a sports psychologist. She is also a member of the McMaster Marauders Varsity Swim Team, which is led by head coach Andrew Cole, a Dartmouth, N.S. native.

Bus To Moncton...Almost FULL!

Hello Everyone!

I would like to extend a big thank-you to those parents that came to the Parents Information Session on Wednesday night. I hope we were able to answer most of your questions. If you thought of a few more, feel free to contact me anytime!

I am thrilled to announce that our bus to Moncton is almost full. We have only 10 vacant spots remaining. For those of you that missed the parents information session, we took registrations for the Moncton Meet that evening. If you have not contacted myself of Tanya Tynski to register your swimmer for this meet, please do so ASAP as the seats are going fast!

I spoke briefly about the meet the other night but I wanted to provide you with all the meet details (see below).

Date: November 1, 2008
Location: Universite De Moncton, CEPS Pool
Warm-Up: 8:50 AM for a start time of 9:50 AM (not sure at this point what time the meet will be over but we will be confirming bus pick-up and drop off times soon). Please note...bus will leave from the Credit Union Place on Saturday AM.
Cost for the Meet: Including Bus/Pizza- $43.00
No Bus/Pizza- $18.00
Meet Entry & Payment Deadline: October 24, 2008

This is going to be a long day for our swimmers. I would recommend that they pack a healthy lunch and snacks and bring a water bottle. There is a canteen there where they can purchase muffins, sandwiches, apples, etc. I know there isn't great selection but could find something for a snack. Pizza and juice will be provided for the swimmers on the bus during the drive back to PEI.

Should you require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Tanya Tynski.

Looking forward to our excursion to Moncton!

50 /50 Draw - Volunteers Needed!

Hi Folks:

I was approached by the City of Summerside to see if the SDSC would be interested in participating in the 50/50 draws during the junior hockey tournament this coming weekend. If we sell the tickets, we can get 25% of the total revenue. The Caps are playing twice over the weekend so we stand to make some money with this opportunity.

This is outside of our one required fundraiser - the swimathon in February -but it seems like a great opportunity -and we can use the money!

The 50/50 process is electronic and is geared to older swimmers (13+) and parents. If you are willing to give us a couple of hours over the weekend, please let me know ASAP and I will draw up a schedule. You can either respond by email or call me at home (436-5794) Plus, you get to watch great hockey for FREE!

Thanks everyone, and wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving if I don't see / talk to you before that :) Cheers,

Tanya Tynski
