Volunteer Activities

Dear Dolphin Parents,

The volunteer incentive program that was introduced this year appears to be quite a success! We had lots of families on the deck during our time trial October 17th – which was awesome!

John Bowser has ‘volunteered’ to keep track of our club’s volunteer activities, so when you volunteer, please email John so he can keep track of the number of ballots you will receive towards a free registration next year. His email is: jbowser@eastlink.ca

We still have lots to accomplish this year, so if you have any interest in the following, please let me know. (click here for a complete list of volunteer opportunities: HYPERLINK)

Sponsorship:
We would love to explore securing sponsorship for your club. This may be designed as a bronze – silver – gold sponsor program, or securing one major sponsor. With a growing club, a sponsor could assist in branding our club (and their business), suits for our swimmers, help with hosting meets, and so on. If you have any interest in working with a group towards this goal, please let me know.

Meet November 22-24th:
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
We will be hosting the Fall Splash meet in November. Last year was the first time SDSC hosted a three day meet and it was a huge success thanks to all the families who gave us a few hours of their time. There are many roles to fill, so please let J Hammer know if you can give some time: jhammer@city.summerside.pe.ca
Friday November 22 (evening only)
Saturday November 23 (morning and / or evening)
Sunday November 24 (morning only)

Social Committee:
The social committee will be lead this year by Karen Steele. The SDSC hopes to have 3-4 fun activities for our team throughout the year. Karen would love to have some creative parents join her with these projects – If you are interested, please just show up on November 7th at 2 pm at the Credit Union Place. (stroke clinics are happening that afternoon). Contact info:
hammersteele@hotmail.com or by phoning 888-3899.

Thanks everyone,

Tanya

Team Clothing Order

The SDSC is excited to once again offer team clothing for our swimmers. There were several requests for track suits last year and I am happy to say they are available for purchase this year! You can see the full clothing line by clicking here:

A big thank you to Cindy Bracegirdle for being our team clothing coordinator this year. Cindy will be available at the CUP with sample clothing on the following dates and will take orders then.
Wednesday November 4th between 4-6:30 pm
Tuesday November 10th between 4 – 6:00 pm

We will make every effort to receive your orders before Christmas.

Fantastic Results Achieved by Dolphin Swimmers this Past Weekend!

This past weekend our club had 42 swimmers compete at the Pentathlon Meet in Charlottetown. Our team saw fantastic results! We are only one month into the season and already we saw major improvements in stroke technique. Along with improvements in technique came many personal best times. Overall our team achieved 78% personal best times! That is super for the first meet of the year!

To see the complete set of results, check out our bulletin board at the pool.

There are swimmers that met a new milestone this past weekend that I would like to highlight.

The Pentathlon Meet was the first swim meet EVER for the following swimmers...
Ally Clow
Lydia Hemphill
Emily MacIssac
Logan Palmer
Chelsey Perry

Congratulations to you five for an outstanding first meet!

The following swimmers achieved their "East Coast" standard for the first time...
Evan Tynski

Congratulations to all the swimmers that competed this weekend! Looking forward to our next meet in our home pool!

First Meet Advice

Parents:
As our first team meet is only 48 hours away, I thought I would 'cut-and-paste' some points to consider in preparation. I know for many Dolphin parents, this is your first meet, so feel free to ask lots of questions. Meets are a very exciting time for our swimmers - it is why they work so hard in practice. I am sure you will find Saturday exciting as well - GO DOLPHINS!!!!!

•Pack lots of clothing and towels for your swimmer. They will go through lots of them through the day.
•Pack water, healthy snacks and drinks. Coaches will probably give your swimmer some advice before a meet on the best choices.
•Make sure you get directions to the pool before you leave.
•Pack a lawn chair – some pools have seating and some do not, so it is always best to be prepared with a chair.
•Do not take pictures at the start of a race, as the flash of the camera interferes with the race start.
•Pools, as a rule, are very warm. You may wish to dress in layers, bring along a pair of sandals or pack a pair of shorts.
•For off island meets, team members are usually asked to stay until the last swimmer on the team is finished, so everyone can cheer their teammate on.
•Even though parents are not competing in a meet, you will find sitting in a hot pool for the better part of a day very tiring. When attending weekend meets, try not to plan too many events, as you will need time to rest.
•In the majority of cases, programs will be sold at meets, so you may want to make sure you bring some cash along. The program will show your swimmers best time (if they have one) for the event for which they are registered.
•Many pools do not have electronic timer systems. I would encourage you to bring along a stop watch so you can celebrate any personal bests your swimmer might achieve. It is also a great tool to see how other Dolphins are doing and to encourage them when they achieve a personal best. This is a great way to build team spirit.
•A few days after the meet, you can visit our website (www.summersidedolphins.ca) and click on the results button. This will take you to the swim direct website where the results of the meet are posted (you do not need to log onto this service.)

URGENT: Please register your swimmer with Swimming Canada

Hi There,

Each family should have received an e-mail from Swimming Canada inviting you to complete your swimmer(s) on-line registration. This MUST be completed before Tuesday, October 20, 2009 or your swimmer(s) will not be able to participate in the meet this weekend. Swimming Canada requires this registration to activate your swimmer(s) insurance.

If you have not received an e-mail from Swimming Canada, please contact Eva Strongman ASAP at patikate@pei.eastlink.ca .

Thanks everyone for your attention to this matter.

Junior Dolphins Hit the Water!

Hello Dolphins!

Just an FYI that your club is expanding to include new programming called
Junior Dolphins. This program will target ages 5-7 and focus on development towards tier one entry. Head Coach Tracy will lead this group for 30 minutes each Tuesday between 5:30 - 6:00.

The Junior Dolphins program is a wonderful addition to our club. In the past, we have had to turn some young swimmers away because they were not quite ready to swim the full length of the pool. This program is designed to meet the needs of these young children, starting off in the leisure pool with shorter class duration.

I know many of you are around the pool on Tuesdays, so please join with me in welcoming our newest team members starting Tuesday October 20th!

(We are almost full, but if you know someone who is interested, please contact Tracy)

Thanks!

Tanya

Lotto License

Hi Everyone:
I had a question about our lotto license for our tickets. We did purchase this, however, the number was left off the actual tickets when we printed. If anyone runs into problems in this regard, please let me know and I can supply you the number. Sorry about that....

Freestyle Stroke Clinic

Our first Dolphins event is happening this month and it is an exciting one as it is a "first time" event for our team. We are pleased to announce that this season our Club will be offering stroke clinics for our swimmers on a monthly/bi-monthly basis. We are encouraging every swimmer to take part in as many of these clinics as they can. The more opportunities that your swimmer has to practice, the better your swimmer will become!

The stroke clinics will be offered in two separate sessions, 10 & Under and 11 & Over. Each clinic can accommodate 12 swimmers and will this will be on a first come, first serve basis. Total cost for a clinic is $20/swimmer. Please see below for the first stroke clinic details...

Location: Credit Union Place
Time: 10 & Unders: 1:00-2:30 PM
11 & Overs: 2:30-4:00 PM

If you have any questions or require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Check back soon for more updates...
