A Big Thank You

I would like to send a huge thank you Tim York, Stacy McKenna, Kirk Steele, Eva Strongman, Sheri Buote, and Sandra and Robert McNeill for giving up their Saturday night.
The casino went off without a hitch (thanks to some “MacGyver-ing” by Stacy and Kirk keeping two very shaky Spin and Win games going) and the club raised $300! I would also like to recognize the Journal Pioneer(namely Sandy & Ruth Rundle) for extended us this opportunity, the night was a lot of fun!
Thanks again.

No School Due to Snow Storm = No Practice

Hello Everyone,

Just a friendly reminder of the Dolphin's Snow Storm Policy. When school has been cancelled due to a snow storm, swimming is also cancelled. Even if the weather clears up by the afternoon there is still no swimming.

I hope all of you were safe and warm during the storm yesterday!

Saturday Night Volunteers Needed

Hello Everyone,

I haven’t heard from anyone yet and I would like to get a team organized for this weekend. Here are the details:

The Journal Pioneer (roughly 70 people total) is having their Christmas party Saturday December 8th at Shipyard Market in Summerside. As apart of their night’s festivities they will be offering a mock casino (gambling with play money). They have approached the club looking for 8 people that would be willing to run the tables for the evening. I have personal been involved a number of times in running this type of affair and they are a great time. It will be a fun night that will run roughly 8pm to 10:30pm.

I would ask those interesting in helping out with this to please email me.

Thanks in advance.

Parent Assistance Is Needed For A Fun Night

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know about a great Fundraising Opportunity that has been offered to the swim club.
I have 3 volunteers already and will be looking for 5 more. Games of chance include Black Jack, Wheels of fortune, and roulette. The Journal Pioneer will be making a $300.00 donation to the club for our efforts. If you are interest please email me so I can get the table assignments organized. It will be a fun night that will run from roughly 8pm to 10:30pm.

Thanks for everyone for a great weekend meet!

On behalf of the Summerside Dolphin Swim Club, I would like to thank all the parents, family, friends and masters swimmers who volunteered for this weekend’s meet. A swim meet takes a huge team effort to pull off. We didn’t only pull off a swim meet, but from all accounts, we did a phenomenal job!

It was encouraging to see so many new faces participating and I hope that the experience was positive for everyone. If you want to provide any feedback on how we can do things better in the future, please do not hesitate to let myself or any of the executive know.

I would like to offer a special thank you to the City of Summerside and their staff for their efforts and helpfulness this weekend. The Wellness Centre is a wonderful asset to our community and the swim club is proud to showcase it at our meets.

On a final note, congratulations to all our swimmers! The Dolphins were amazing this weekend with lots of personal best times and exciting races.

Congratulations,

I will ask those of you that are interested in this (and have the time) to email me so that I can make the necessary arrangements.

Fundraising Just Updated!

Just a reminder about the following upcoming fundraisers:

1. Penny Drive - collect as many pennies as you can from now until Dec 20, 07. There will be a drop off at the pool each week. The swimmer who gets the most in that week will receive some passes for the pool or bowling lanes. Please keep track on how much you drop off that week. Let's start collecting!

2. Jan 2, 08 - Family & Friends Movie - We will be selling movie tickets to our friends and family at a discounted price. The movie hasn't been selected yet but it will be determined shortly. Tickets will be available early December.

There will be a few more fundraisers in the new year.

Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.

Up coming swim meet hosted by Summerside and Charlottetown

Hello everyone,

We have a swim meet coming up on November 24th and 25th.

Summerside will be hosting the Saturday portion of the meet and Charlottetown will be hosting the Sunday portion. The meet is open to al the swimmers and we are expecting many teams from outside PEI. Swim meets require a lot of participation from the parents and other individuals interested in the sport.

I have attached a list of duties that will have to be filled for the Saturday portions of this meet. The non timing positions require some previous experience (we are trying to set up a training session ton the Friday before the meet), other then that we need lots of timers and that position does not require experience. Please complete the form indicating the area(s) that you would be interested in. Once you completed it click the “Submit by email” button and your email program will pop up ready to send the data, all you have to do is click send. For those of you that use webmail just send me an email with the areas you have interest in.

Remember officiating gives you the best seat in the house!

Update: Moncton Meet Travel

Hello Again!

According to Environment Canada, we could experience some nasty weather tomorrow. Looks like we are going to get hit with the remnants of Hurricane Noel.

I have touched base with Trius Tours and this is the latest info from them. As of right now they are set to go in the AM. They usually follow the weather pretty close when buses are due back the same day of a storm. If the bridge closes and will be closed for a few hours most teams in the past have waited it out until it opens. Trius did say that delays do happen from time to time, but usually they find a window (break in the gusts) to get the buses over. If for some reason the bridge is closed for a long period of time (i.e. over night) there are options that we can look at for getting everyone back home.

As of right now, all plans will remain the same however be prepared for Plan B. I will pack some movies for the kids on the bus in case we do have a delay at the bridge. If we have to wait at the bridge...we'll wait! What kind of a swim meet would it be without a story anyway!

Oh and just a reminder...don't forget to check the blog tomorrow to see what time you need to pick up your swimmer(s).

See ya's in the AM!

Back-up Plan

Driving back to Charlottetown this AM after practice I just happen to catch the weather. There seems to be an approaching storm with lots of rain and high winds. As most of you are aware, the bridge often closes to high sighted vehicles during high winds. What this means is that there is a potential that the bus may not be able to cross the bridge. The joys of living on an Island!! So what we are asking is for parents to have a back-up plan (i.e. a plan to take your own cars over to Moncton or have your swimmer car pool with someone else). We are committed to participating in the meet so the plan is to go with or without the bus! I am crossing my fingers (and toes) that this doesn't happen as allot of work has been put into organizing this event and it is going to be a super duper fun time for our swimmers.

Pray to the weather gods for no wind :o) !

Hopefully I'll see you all on Saturday AM on the bus!

Chaperones needed for bus to Moncton

Hello everyone,

Moncton Swim Meet

First of all I would like to begin by saying...AWESOME JOB to our Dolphins swimmers that participated in the meet this past weekend! What a great way to kick off the season!

Our next meet is almost here already so I wanted to get all the information out to the parents ASAP. As most of you have already heard we are planning for the ENTIRE team to travel to Moncton for the CNBO Development Meet. This event is going to be a "team building" event for the Dolphin Swim Club. Arrangements have been made for the swimmers to take a team bus over to Moncton for the meet. We are encouraging all swimmers that plan on attending the meet to take the bus. Coaches have planned a few activities, some team cheers, etc. It will be a great opportunity for all of our swimmers to get to know one another and spend some time gelling as a team!

Here are the meet details...

Date: Saturday, November 3, 2007
Location: Universite de Moncton, CEPS
Meet Warm-Up: 10:00 AM (10:50 start time)
Meet/Bus Fee: $45.00 (this will cover the cost for the bus and the entry fee for the meet). Fees need to be paid by Monday, October 29, 2007.
Entry Deadline: Thursday, October 25, 07

Our team managers will be contacting you this week to find out if your swimmer(s) will be attending the meet.

Parents....I know most of you are going to want to go on the bus because it sounds like a whole lot of fun! Unfortunately this is just for the swimmers. If you plan on going, let the team manager know when they call. If possible, we will try to arrange a car pool for parents to cut down on expenses. We are encouraging parents to attend the meet, after all we do need some cheerleaders :o)!

If you require additional information about this event, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be posting more information as we get closer to the event so please check the blog daily.

See you on the deck!

Timers are Required

Hello Everyone,

For those parents that would like to time during Saturday's Meet (best seat in the house). Please email Elaine Cormier (djcormier@pei.sympatico.ca)from the Charlottetown Bluephins swim club and let her know you are interested. For those people who might be a little leery, please read Elaine's mail below and you can see she wont bite. Please keep in mind Timing is a great way to learn about swimming and with the electronic timing systems that both Charlottetown and Summerside have, all you really do is hit a button.

see you at the meet!

Marya Carr and I are in charge of arranging officials for the meet and I wondered if you might know how many and who among your parent group will be attending? I need about five more timers and then we will be all set. If some of your parents are looking to gain some experience in other areas, we'd be happy to arrange that as well.

Our Dolphin swimmers are already registered so if your swimmer(s) can no longer attend because of the change in time please e-mail me ASAP (tracyguimond@summersidedolphins.ca). If the time is fine for you and your swimmer(s)...I will see you Saturday!

Charlottetown Development Meet

Hello Swimmers and Parents!

I hope everyone is finally settled into their training groups. I know it was a little crazy trying to ensure that the new swimmers were placed in their appropriate groups. I think we are finally settled!

The first swim meet of the year has quickly snuck up on us. This meet is open to ALL Dolphins swimmers regardless of age and skill level.

Here are the meet details...

Date: Saturday, October 20, 2007
Location: CARI Pool, Charlottetown
Warm-Up: 8:00 AM (with a 9:00 start time)
Events: Each swimmer can swim up to a maximum of 3 events and 1 relay. Events will be picked by the swimmers Coach.
Meet Fees: $20.00/swimmer (flat rate). Cheques can be made payable to the Summerside
Dolphins Swim Club.
Entry Deadline: October 14, 2007

Our Club does have a few policies for swim meets. Please read below...
1. Parents or swimmer must confirm their swimmers participation with either myself or their coach PRIOR to the meet entry deadline. Entries cannot be made after the entry deadline.
2. Once a swimmer has been entered into the meet, they are required to pay the meet fees regardless if they attend the meet or not. The reason for this is because once entries are submitted to the meet manager, the host Club will charge the Dolphins for those meets fees regardless if the swimmer is there or not.
3. We encourage Dolphins swimmers to wear Dolphins clothing and bathing caps. For those of you that are new, you will be receiving your free t-shirt and cap shortly.
4. Swimmers must arrive on time for warm-up. If your swimmer is not there on time, I will have to scratch (remove) your swimmer from the meet as per the SNC/SWIM PEI rules.
5. All swimmers are expected to stay for the entire meet (even if they are finished swimming) to cheer on their team mates. If your swimmer has to leave early, please notify me in advance.

For swimmers and parents that are new to competitive swimming, there is a great information document posted on this website titled "Swim Meet Advice for Parents". If this document does not answer all your questions that you might be have, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or your swimmer's coach.

A swim meet is a very fun and exciting event for swimmers and at the same time is a great learning opportunity. Meets provide an opportunity for swimmers to apply the skills that they learned in practice. For those that have never experienced a swim meet....come watch! There is no other sport competition like it. The cheering in excitement in the air will be unlike anything you have ever seen!

If any of you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to contact me. We want to ensure everyone is enjoying being part of the Dolphins Family!

I hope to see all of you at the meet!

Reminder...no morning practices until after Thanksgiving

Greetings Dolphin Swimmers & Parents,

It was great to see all of the returning Dolphin swimmers back in the pool yesterday. A very big welcome to the new members of our Club. We had 27 swimmers show up yesterday for assessments! That is incredible! The coaching staff is so excited for this swimming season.

I just wanted to post this friendly reminder to confirm that there will be NO morning practices for the Tier 3, 4 & Regional Groups until after Thanksgiving.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me or your swimmer's coach. Our contact information is on the website.

See you on the deck!

Welcome Back!

Hello Dolphin Swimmers and Parents!

Welcome back for another fabulous season of swimming with the Summerside Dolphins Swim Club! I trust all of you had a very relaxing summer. I hope you are all ready to dive into the new swimming season.

Our team is building quickly. Already we have most of the past Dolphin swimmers registered for this upcoming season and several inquiries from new possible Dolphin swimmers. We might surpass our old membership record of 61 swimmers! Our Dolphins family is growing...it's fantastic!

I hope all of you are excited as I am to begin the season. Our season is going to be full of swimming fun....lots of meets, camps, team building activities and social events. Get ready for a busy but fun season of swimming.

Just a reminder that practices begin on Monday, September 24th, 2007 as well that is the day that the coaching staff will be evaluating new swimmers. Please don't forget your suit, cap and goggles :o)!

I look forward to another very successful season with the Dolphins Swim Club! See you all on the 24th!
