Thank you Great First Meet
Thank you to everybody who volunteered officiating for the meet this weekend! The meet ran extremely well, and it was a great club effort. A special thank you to Debbie Bulger and all the others who contributed food for our volunteers. As always - a big thank you to our dedicated coaching staff!
It takes a lot of effort to pull off a meet and it is great to have such a involved group of parents ensuring our Island swimmers have fun meet.
Also, a big thank you to Marguerite Middleton, Margaret Whitrow and the rest of the Charlottetown parents for volunteering her time and officiating the meet.
Remember, we will hosting our next meet in Nov, and hopefully we will have the same great participation that we had this weekend.
Once again - THANKS

Breastroke Clinic
Hello Everyone,
I am pleased to announce that our Club is going to be offering stroke clinics again this year. These clinics provide a unique opportunity for your swimmer to work on technique that is specific to their individual stroke. This year, we will be using an underwater video camera for some of the clinics. This will provide your swimmer will the opportunity to see themselves swim while the coach is providing feedback. This will make it easier for the swimmer to understand what the coach is talking about when it comes to stroke mechanics.
The stroke clinics are going to be offered in two different sessions, 10 & Under and 11 & Over. Each clinic can accommodate 12 swimmers and will be on a first come, first serve basis. The cost is $20/swimmer. The first stroke clinic is breastroke. Here are the details....
Date: October 23, 2010
Time: 10:30-12:00- 11 & Over
12:00-1:30- 10 & Under
Registration Deadline: Friday, October 22, 2010
To register, please contact me at tracyguimond@summersidedolphins.ca . Registration fees must be paid by the registration deadline. Please make cheques payable to SDSC and drop them off in the locked box at the CUP front desk.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We really need participation from families of all our swimmers in order to make this a fun and successful meet for our dolphins. Please consider putting your name forward as a way to learn more about your swimmers sport and help out your club. It takes many people to host a meet.
The duty roster is attached; click on it to see what shifts we need filled. Volunteers should be at the pool by 9:00am (hot coffee and muffins will be provided) The meet is timed out for 1pm.
Please email me at ctree@islandtelecom.com with what duty you would like to do.

No parent on deck policy/ volunteering
I'm receiving a few emails about the No parent on deck policy. This is not a new policy. We are simply reminding parents of the policy. The new part of the policy is the fact we are allowing parents of Tier 1A children to remain in the stands until Christmas, and stressing to parents not to approach coaches on deck while coaching. The Junior Dolphin program is in the shallow pool which is right beside the viewing area, so parents would not be sitting in the stands to watch their child, because the viewing area is closer. The Summerside Dolphins is s competitive swim club and the coaches want your child's undivided attention while they are in the pool. My apologies to anyone that felt we were putting a new policy in place because of parents interfering with coaches. This is not the case. Our policy is not unlike many other organizations. A child learning how to skate can not have the parent on the ice with them. Parents can not watch a child taking Tae Kwon Do lessons. Dance lessons do not allow parents in the room, etc. We have qualified coaches/lifeguards on deck. We are not asking parents to leave the pool entirely. They simply have to watch from the viewing area which is 30 feet or so further than the stands. Not everything the Executive does is popular with every parent, but we are trying to be fair to the needs of the coaches, parents and swimmers. The Executive are all volunteers and are all Dolphin parents as well. We are doing the best we can. We welcome more help. We have positions open if you would like to contribute.
For swim meets, by all means, sit in the stands and encourage your children while they are competing......but even better than that, volunteer for local meets. Timekeep...take a stroke and turn course. I've put up several courses, but have not received any response. We can not run a swim meet without volunteers and it becomes increasingly difficult to ask the same parents to volunteer meet after meet. The more help the better.

Amendment to Parent/Swimmer Code of Conduct and Contact Info
This information will also be sent to everyone by email as well. Please keep for reference, and respond to any member of the Executive through email that you have received it. The Executive/Head Coach's emails are provided below as well as the link to the Dolphin website.
This notice is not meant to replace the Parent/Swimmer Code of Conduct that each parent/swimmer was to sign, but is in addition to it. It is also not meant to infringe on the coaches ability/responsibility to address minor issues on deck. If you have not received/signed the Parent/Swimmer Code of Conduct, please advise us and we will provide you with a copy. A signed copy is mandatory in order for your child to swim with the SDSC.
The club's mandate is to provide a safe, supportive environment for parent, child, coach and Executive. In keeping with this mandate, we are adding the following items to the code of conduct. These items do not just apply to the swimmer. They apply to swimmer, parent, coach and executives. Our aim is to have a successful, rewarding season for all.
No parents on deck
An exception to this rule is parents of Tier 1A children only will be allowed to watch their kids in the stands until Christmas break. After Christmas break they will be subject to the same policy as the rest of the swim club. Parents may watch their children from the viewing area just inside the pool. We are trying to keep our coaches coaching during practice time and not fielding questions or taking complaints/criticism. Repeated occurrences of parents being on deck may result in the parent not being allowed on the pool premises during SDSC activites. For serious situations, it may result in suspension or removal of their child from the club on recommendation of the coaches/executive. If you need to talk to the coach, we ask that you talk to them before/after practice if time permits and only for general inquiries. If you have a formal complaint, we ask that you raise it in writing either through email or letter to any member of the Executive, or dropped off in the lockbox at the front desk of the CUP.
Violence/Bullying/Unsportmanlike Behaviour
Minor issues will be dealt with on deck by the coaches through the yellow/red card system as communicated in the parent/swimmer code of conduct already provided. Issues of a serious or repeated nature will be brought before the Executive. The club does not condone this behaviour even in retaliation. The Executive will investigate and parents will be notified. If the event is serious or repeated, the swimmer may be suspended or ejected from the club on recommendation of the executive/coaches. If the situation involves a parent(s), the same repurcussions apply and your swimmer may be suspended/removed from the club. Parents are not to bring issues to the coaches on deck as per the "No Parents On Deck" policy. You can speak to the coach before/after practice if time permits for minor issues only, and major issues should be addressed through the formal complaint process to any member of the Executive.
Formal Complaints
Formal complaints must be in writing through email or letter to any member of the Executive. If a parents brings a verbal complaint to a member of the board or coaches that they would like action taken for, they will be instructed to raise a formal complaint in writing. The Executive will investigate the contents of the written complaint. We want to make sure that any issue that comes to the board is not miss-quoted. It is up to the parent to make sure the letter is complete and factual to the best of their knowledge. The Executive will take action as necessary.
The SDSC Executive and Coaches wish every swimmer a safe and successful 2010/2011 swim season.
