Split Team Fun Meet Details!

Hey Dolphins,

The first split team fun meet will be held this Saturday - ALL Dolphins are asked to attend (Jr. D - Regional) Here are the details:
When: Saturday 8:30 - 11:15
Where: CUP
What: LOTS OF FUN. There will be cheering, racing, splashing and and lots of TEAM SPIRIT. At 10:45, swimmers will be provided pancakes and hot chocolate.

Swimmers are asked to bring a non perishable food item to the meet and in return they will receive a ballot to win a speedo bag with some swimming goodies. The more food, the more ballots - let's show Summerside our SDSC spirit!

Fun Split Team Meet

We are hosting a Split Team Fun Meet this Saturday morning, December 17th. Coach Dave will be sharing more of the fun details with us later!

We wanted to take this opportunity for the parents to also have some fun, learn a little about the volunteer requirements our club has for every swim meet we host and give parents a chance to win a free membership for next season!

For each swim meet we host, we require almost 40 volunteers per session. The Fall Splash, which we hosted in mid-November, included 4 sessions and required 160 volunteers! ( as a reference point, our club has about 140 parents) Our swimmers put up some great times and had a lot of fun and our club made over $4000! This could not happen with our parent volunteers.

Our club has a large number of new swimmers this year, which also means we have a large number of parents whom may be new to the sport.

With this in mind we are requesting all “veteran” swimming parents join the new parents on deck during the Split Team Fun Meet this Saturday morning, December 17th to explain some of the volunteer roles required for the swim meet. We will demonstrate the roles of timers, stroke & turn, starter, hospitability and meet manager.

All parents, Please email Chris at chris@palmers.ca before Thursday at 5pm so we have an idea of the parent attending. We would really like to see everyone contribute to help make our club stronger for our kids.

We have also sent by email the Family Volunteer ballot sheet so you will get a better understanding of how you can win a free membership for next season.

As a bonus, all volunteers that participate in this Split Team Fun Meet and our next home meet (Feb18th) will receive double ballots!

Hi Dolphins!

Our 2010-11 year has officially drawn to a close and we are beginning to plan for our 2011-12 season. Thanks to parents who volunteered to step forward to be part of the executive next year as well as take on some other leadership roles within our club. In addition, the executive is in the process of finalizing our coaching staff for next year.

With that said, can you please contact our Registrar Sharlene Fennell sharlenefennell317@msn.com to let us know if your swimmer is returning (or not). This will help us determine the amount of coaching hours needed (as we finalize coaching staff) as well as spots available for new swimmers.

Volunteer Program

Hi Parents:
I wanted to clarify that the SDSC will continue to offer our volunteer incentive program once again this year. This program is designed to encourage parent participation in the many tasks and events that take place throughout the year. The only change from last year's program is that we have reduced the number of free memberships to two (due to anticipated fiscal realities)

For new parents, this is a ballot system - for example, if you volunteer to time at a meet - you receive a certain number of ballots to win a free membership.

I will send complete details, including the contact info to send your volunteer activities as well as a copy of the chart with corresponding ballet rewards to each family by email.

Thanks everyone,

Tanya

Practice Today (Regional 4:00-6:00)

Hello Parents,

I just wanted to let you know that I will not be travelling to Summerside due to the weather. It has started to snow here in Charlottetown and is predicted to snow at times heavy this afternoon/evening. I have sent a practice to Lori and she is going to get the practice started. I have shortened the workout a bit so they can be picked up around 5:30.

Just a reminder...no practice for the Tri-Team members tomorrow AM. Also, check the blog in the AM to make sure the Dolphins practice is still on for the non Tri-Team members...calling for 25cm this evening/overnight.

Parent Opportunity

PARENT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY
JANUARY 26th
6:30-7:30pm
Credit Union Place

LANCE CANSDALE, SWIM CANADA OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

ALL DOLPHIN PARENTS INVITED

The SDSC Executive and Head Coach Tracy Stevenson would like to invite the entire parent body of the SDSC to an important educational opportunity. We strongly encourage every parent to attend to become more familiar with where your swimmer is as an athlete and where they are going when it comes to their long term development as a swimmer.

LANCE CANSDALE (BSc., MSc.) - DOMESTIC OPERATIONS DIRECTOR for Swimming Canada

Lance Cansdale has been involved with swimming in many capacities for over 20 years as a nationally ranked swimmer, a successful national level coach and a successful swim administrator in both Canada and the United States. He comes to Swim PEI as the Domestic Operations Director for Swimming Canada. Previously we knew him as the Halifax Trojans Head Coach and the Swim Nova Scotia Provincial Head Coach.

A key focus of SWIM CANADA (SNC) is the implementation of a Long Term Athletic Development Strategy and this will be the focus of Lance's meeting with parents in both Summerside and Charlottetown. This will provide you with an excellent opportunity to understand the aspects of your child's training as they progress from new to experienced swimmer. This will be a very useful seminar with time for questions as well. Again I would like to encourage parents to attend and learn more about why, in swimming, we do the things we do.

Dolphins Rock!

WOW! What an amazing weekend!

First, I would like to thank everyone for attending our Pep Rally on Friday night. It was great to see all the creative posters, hear the "cheer off" and learn about how important healthy eating is during training and meets. LOVED meeting our Jr. Dolphins - hope you guys had fun!

Also, a great day of swimming during our development meet today. THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! It started off a bit rocky as this was our first meet without J Hammer as meet manager, but you stepped up and helped in so many ways :) A special thanks to John Bowser, Swim PEI and the Charlottetown Bluefin parents for your ongoing support as well.

Next week the Tri Meet will be held at the CUP on Sunday. It is a short meet (10 - 1:30) so if you would like to volunteer - please let me know, OR, simply come on out to cheer on Team PEI!

Thanks everyone,

Tanya

Practice Cancelled Thursday AM

Hello Parents!

I just watched the news and it sounds like we are getting doozy of a storm tonight so I have cancelled practice for the AM. If school is cancelled tomorrow then the afternoon practices will be cancelled as well.

Just a reminder that we have our pep rally scheduled for Friday night. We have 43 swimmers entered into the meet on Saturday so we want to get them pumped up!! We would like as many swimmers and parents there as possible. Regional swimmers, I will be needing your help with the younger swimmers during the rally so I hope all of you can attend. I will be ending practice at 5:30 so we can all get to the pep rally on time.

See you Friday!

Coach Tracy

Dolphin Parents,

The next Island development meet will be hosted in our pool on Saturday January 15th. This meet is open to all swimmers and details regarding start times is posted under the MEET section of our website.

As you know, it takes the support of many parents to host a meet and I am hoping each of you consider putting your name forward to help.

As a minimum, this is what we need:

1 head timer
Volunteers to coordinate food
Volunteers to supply food

Can you please let me know if you are able to help by Sunday, January 9th. We will need to provide our list to Swim PEI in advance to ensure our meet can go ahead. Thanks so much! Tanya
